PROJECT 3: Self Directed Project

Working on something so broad with endless ideas, it is often so hard to decide on a concept and even harder to get started on it.
This time round, I'm faced with chosing my own concept of a project, rather than having one already chosen for me to just work on.
Thought after thought, there was nothing which excited me.
The recent marathon of rainy days didn't help either...... OR MAYBE IT DID!
It was the silhouette, profile, form and movement of rain which got me excited and from then I started to doodle and sketch on paper.
(These sketches were exploring the form and shape of rain falling)

After a bit of research and experimentation, I'd decided that it would be best suited as a neckpiece.

It would be made entirely of sterling silver.

The rain would be represented by solid sterling silver rod (approx. 3mm thick).

The neck piece itself would be made of solid sterling silver rod (approx. 5-6mm thick).

Studying art & jewellery, I find that the key to an artwork is individuality and uniqueness. I needed to think of a way for my piece to be somehow different and clever.
This is where an idea came into my head..."hmm what if the shape and the silhouette of the rain could be altered in someway?..."
"THREDS!"
Each rain drop would be screwed on and off to each connection, allowing the wearer to display what ever shape they desire.

(Sketches and experiments of the 'thred connection')
Currently, I'm still in the process of solving problems and experimenting with ideas. However, I'm pretty sure of what I will be producing and I'm hoping to finish the piece within a week or two. Below are some more images of what I'm working on.

Next posting for this work will be when I've finalised the producton.
