Sydney based Jewellery & Object designer and maker

Start of this semester, the Jewellery and the Object studio were offered a chance to entre the SCA memento competition. The proposal came with a few restraints;
  • It needed to be mass produced within a certain amount of time
  • It needed to be cost effective (approx. $12 per unit)
  • It needed to be unique and innovative
  • In the end, it would become a gift presented to visitors and guests of SCA
This was a project which I definitely wanted to challenge to build up my CV and production experience. However, having just come back from an overseas trip, I only had a day or two to hand in the final proposal for the competition.
I came up with a very, simple but elegant idea for a gift that would proudly represent and display SCA.
It would be a small button like object that would hang off a mobile phone as a decorating piece. (it had other potentials, e.g key ring etc)
I had designed a prototype with a bottle-cap and some cut out cardboard to take some images, just in time to hand in the proposal.

Few weeks past and I had already given up hope of being chosen...
Then, it was not long after that I was approached and given the opportunity to go ahead with my design. =D
However, again, I had a few challenges to pass by in order to complete the production in time...
  • I was only given less than 3 weeks to finalize the design and complete the production of around 50 units
  • On top of this, I had other projects and works I needed to complete
  • I had a budget limited to around $12 per unit
It wasn't an easy challenge, but something that would help me in a great deal for the future.

After several weeks of stress/panic attacks, I managed to finalize the design to my satisfaction, create a wax mold and cast produce approx. 45 units in bronze. Then half were silver-plated and the other half blackened.
