Layer: the second project

Layer: The second project

After visiting Leo (metal-spinner), I started refining my thoughts in regards to what I wanted to explore and develop for this Layer project.
I began sketching and constructing models, interested in the idea of 'containing' or 'the container', the term layer referring to the concept of levels or leverage, and possibly incorporating the techniques of metal-spinning.

Upon looking for materials for constructing models, I encountered PVC plumbing pipes which resulted in spring like forms below as I thought about ways to reduce the amount of cuts and attachments...

Layer: the second project

The idea of the 'layer' in relations to levels, leverage & colour.
Through research, it was obvious that colours, scale and slight differences in shape played a large role in distinguishing objects that were of similar shape and form.

Interested in the idea of fast repetitive forming, metal spinning became a possible technique to be used for this project...
I made a trip out to Marrickville and was lucky enough to talk to Leo (70 year old metal spinner!!) whom showed me around his workshop and kind enough to give me a glimpse of the metal spinning process...

Refining the logo kyss...
I'm drawn to the embossed look, with a simple & clean text...
