Unbearable challenges assumptions that art objects should be tasteful, aesthetically pleasing, understandable, accessible and physically manageable.
The works in Unbearable, through their material qualities, scale, subject matter, etcetera ask the viewer/ user/ wearer to address their expectationsand consider the other possibilities.

So, like it states, I needed to produce a work which was Unbearable.Once again, after several weeks of thinking, along came a thought...

"...aw gosh..... I remember back in the days of primary school, the incredibly UNBEARABLE sound of scratching/scraping on the blackboard.... keeeeeeeeeeek"

With this concept in mind, I had sent in the proposal and along came the "go ahead" sign in a few days time =)
Knowing I had been accepted, I immediately got on with finalising the design and function aspects of the piece.
Basically, it's an interactive headphone piece. The audience is able to put on the headphones, attached to a container with a sound mechanism inside. (the container will be designed to display exactly what the piece is about) The audio played will be the ever so UNBEARABLE sound of scratching the blackboard, repeatedly played on a loop system.

Okay, enough said, I'll let the images do the talking, here are some pictures of what I've been up to. (The images below are works in progress).

With the final body of work, I intend on giving goosebumps to the audience =)
